I am a little curious as to what some of the die hard Van Halen guitar enthusists are using to get that good ole "Brown Sound".

I would be curious if Russ would give up the goods on what he uses without giving away trade secrets of course. I know he uses a Marshall stack with a Peavy 5150+ (which is now been re-released as a 6505), due to some piss ant copyright deal between Eddie and Peavy. Prolly a MXR Phase 90 as well.

There are such a wide range of Pedals and Processors out there. I don't have a ton money either. I do see alot on Line-6 Pod XT patches to get it, but I wanted to pick up something that was a little more robust and with pedals so that when the day comes, I could even do small gigs with it.

So I picked up a Boss ME-50, so far I really like it, but just can't seem to tweak it to the point where I am satisfied. Anyone ever play around with one?

I am using an Ibanez RG-320 as my main axe.

Anyway, thanks for any help you all can give.

You mentioned you'd like something with pedals to use live - enter the POD XTLive! I just got one about 3 weeks ago and it sounds great! It has a preset patch called eruption that sounds good after tweaking to your own liking and I downloaded a plexi patch that gives a great 'brown sound'.

The XTLive is basically the POD XT built into a floorboard. It's made of metal and was well thought out. Sounds great thru headphones (it's stereo) and I bought an Atomic Reactor 112 - it's a new amp designed specifically for modelers - to play live.

I play for my own enjoyment along with my drummer son and wanted a wider variety of sounds for mainly classic rock stuff and I sold a tube amp for this setup and couldn't be happier.
