Hadn't been to the last few Pov's show and it was great to see the show again. Thanks for "Hear About It Later" and proclaiming it for "me"...Thought we might have some announcement as to the Russ leaving story...that was the main reason I main an effort to attend this time, I didn't want to miss Russ' final Minnesota performance.
Webmasters, can we please get details on why he's leaving?
Thanks for the great time guys, hope to see you again soon!!!

Saw the show last night and it was awesome. It was a bit loud in there, but the place is sort of small. These guys play Van Halen as good or maybe better that the real VH. With so much talent and natural music ability, I wonder why they would rather spend a decade imitating a certain bands sound and recreating the past, as oppossed to creating thier very own music, but with that classic Van Halen type of sound. I am puzzled over this???? If they were to have taken this natural talent and started putting out albums 5 years ago, of new music but with a classic Van Halen sound to thier own music, they would all be multi-millionares by now, and would be playing arena's instead of Paladinos. I mean doesn't this make sense what I am saying ?? Why waste years , not to mention so much talent just being imitators of a great band that has long been finsihed. I am a big fan of the Punk's but I know that 98% of you all must agree with me. I would like and hope that the band read this remark and hope that Ralph or Russ would give some feed back on this . You guys should be working on your 4th album by now, and touring the world, maybe having Iron Maiden as an opening act for you by now. I have seen the Punks about 8 times over the years, and I have always scratched my head over this. This would be great if they were all 20 year olds. But they are not anymore. They have let a great chance and opportunity slip away with time, by not taking in to the highest level and letting the talent and creativity (with a 1981 Van Halen sound) that could have made the current generation of rockers think that these guys were the next Led Zeppelin of the modern era. Sure hope the band sees this.

I stumbled in to your gig at the Whisky around 1 am. I had just finished a gig in Bakersfield, and after getting to the LAX Hampton $50 later cabbed me to the Viper which sucked then some bar down the street where Bam Margera and Gene Simmons were doing shots. It was like some f'd up nightmare. Then some old huss (I think it was Heidi Fleiss?) was biting my arm asking for a white russian. I bought one - pushed it her way then bolted to get some Marlboro's (valid excuse, right?)
Well after chasing down my watery shite vodka tonic, struggling out the door through the outlaw crowd... I stumbled to the Whisky front door. Lo and behold kick ass 5150 riffs were oozing out of the door onto Sunset - and I inquired to the likes of you.
As my foot crosses the threshold, the lick begins... daaaaaa da dap dap daaaaaaa... da dap dada daaa dap dada daaa dap dada -- do be do wahhh... visions of the kid in the glasses at his desk, sweat dripping down his forehead -- the teacher's swelled breasts staring him in his four-eyes - beckoning him yet closer, as David Lee Roth jumps through the television set like the ultimate rock god he was.
I had arrived. My virgin 'Whisky'. Taken by the 'Punks.
I was pleased, albeit one of the security was an ass - but it was cool.
The sound was spectacular - kudos to the engineer. Yours or theirs?
The only shite thing about LA was that last call is 1:30. Bars in Nashvegas don't close 'til three so I hadn't even got my buzz on. Damn.
The tribute spectacle made it all worth while.
Oh and the guest guitarist you guys had up there was stellar. What was his name?

Ive seen about 50 tribute bands. the atomic punks are in the top 3 with the fab4 and wild child. they could be #1 Ralph sounds so much like Dave,it's scary. and doesn't talk through a lot of the verses (like dave did) I think it would be really cool if Ralph would take some of the sammy songs and rewrite the lyrics and melodies in a way that Dave might have. or just keep them the same and sing them like Dave would. I hope you play " In A Simple Rhyme" and "Women in Love next time.

I'm an ol' time fan of Van Halen. I used to check them out at the Whiskey-A-GoGo back in 1975-76. This was the first time I saw the Atomic Punks. They rocked Santa Clarita Valley -- for sure!
Ralph is a doll, he has an excellent voice and dances just like Dave. The one thing that's missing is Dave's ego. And to tell you the truth, that was one of the biggest turn offs for me when I used see them at the Whiskey. The missing ego was refreshing for me. As far as I'm concerned, Ralph kicked ass minus the huge ego...made him sexier than Dave.
The one and only turn off about last Saturday's gig was Russ wearing a wig. I saw the guys warming up...I was way impressed. But when it came time to start the actual concert, Russ came out sporting a wig -- I had to laugh! Dude, you play killer guitar and you're sexy just they way you are....you don't need that silly wig.
My vote: This band rocks and the guys are sexy as hell....just get rid of the wig(s).
Thanks for the memories,
Donna :o)

I'm a sophmore in high school, and met up with some people I saw that I knew, and was blown away. Ralph was awesome, he gave me several high fives, and called me Guns N' Roses boy (I was wearing a Guns N' Roses shirt). About 2/3rds of the way into the show, I tried to climb on stage, and some people I knew boosted me up onto the stage. Ralph was so cool about it. All he said was "How'd you get up here bro?" and grabbed me and put his arm around my shoulder. While the song was finishing, myself and some others that Ralph brought up, rocked out. When the song was over, they had the others leave the stage, and Ralph high fived me and asked my name. I told him, and he asked how many people liked Guns N' Roses. Ralph then asked if we knew Mr. Brownstone, and said "We do." They then began playing the song, and Ralph had me yell into the microphone, and then told me not to be nervous. Ralph and me then sang the verse about "That old man he's a real..." when we were singing it, Ralph looked at me and I looked at him. When the song went into the solo, Ralph told me to air guitar with him. After this, he helped me back down off the stage. It was seriously the coolest thing in the world.

WOW! - How cool it was to see Van Halen last night - I mean the Atomic Punks. My son and I went - exactly a year after seeing Van Hagar at AWA. Obviously - other than we got to see Eddie for perhaps the last time - this was waaay better. I agree with those who say this band sounds better than VH sounded back in the day - I saw them every year, at least once, and while it was the ultimate party and thrill - the quality of the song-playing was not as consistently good as the Punks (and "Diamond Dave" could NEVER sound that good for an entire concert - but he WAS the ULTIMATE front man)... btw I vote for "Take your whisky home" or "Romeo Delight" - since I can't think of any WACF material; of course "Cradle" would be great if it can be done - I only saw it live during that year's tour, never after that.
Thank you for showing the kids what the magic looked like back in 78-84 - and for the memories! Come back soon so I don't have to take all my son's kids on a road trip to LA! - Stay Safe! [also, why couldn't Eddie have taken Ralph back in '98? - even though Gary C. was ok live, and he got Eddie to play the old stuff like "Mean Streets" - sure wish he'd do it now, before it's too late!]

I just want to reiterate - it takes a lot of talent and energy to put on that kind of show. I'm glad that someone in Algonquin had the sense to book you guys. In the words of Jack Black , "Let's Get Rock'in".

You guys ROCKED! The best VH tribute band I have ever seen. The songs were killer, and I liked that you tried to look a bit like them. I think it only adds to the "show". My only critique is that I didn't feel that you should need to explain that you don't "think" you are VH. Everyone knows that and just do your thing and rock the place. Again - excellent show and excellent sound. Props to Russ - man you blew me away with your chops...
Best of luck and hope to catch you again soon!

Like always, it was an awesome friggin' show. It was also very cool bumping into Ralph, Scott, and Joe just walking around the festival beforehand. You guys are the coolest. The show was spectacular. I've seen you guys 50+ times, and I'm always impressed. Liked "Mr. Brownstone" too. Never been to one of your shows where there was that much crowd participation on stage. Unbelievable and extremely entertaining as all hell. My friends and I had a blast. Highlight for me..."DROP DEAD LEGS". Never heard you guys do that one before. AWESOME!!! Hope you guys come back to Illinois real soon.

It was fun especially when that guy wanted to pick a fight with you because you wouldn't play Hot for Teacher right away. I was the guy with the white backwards hat in the front if you remeber me. nailed 'em all. Folks, the guy screams as good as
Roth did on the LPs. And he's got the whole Roth act perfected, too. And Russ plays Eddie note for note, no change ups. You guys cranked man. I hope you will be back next year. Keep Rockin'

You guys were awesome. I honestly have to say, usually heavy metal isnt my thing, but seeing you on stage was incredible. The way you interacted with the crowd, just the music in general...My father just passed away less than a month ago, and almost all the songs that you played, were played to me as a young girl. My sister came with me, but was a little too young to remember. The one she did know was "Panama", and that brought back really awesome memories. Thanks...it realy means alot, because I miss my dad like crazy, and growing up with Van Halen I can understand and appreciate what you guys do. I wish you guys were out here more often! I got to the stadium fast as I could, and was surprised to find David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen up ontage!!! Obviously, it wasn't REALLY them, but one look gave me visions of Van Halen in their prime. Great show by the Punks. As mentioned earlier, the Punks set was cut short by the Club. You could tell Ralph & the guys would have played all night, but the Bar manager wasn't going for that. The did get a pretty late start around midnight. The 2nd band played a LONG time, several good Zeppelin covers, but I was there to see the Punks.
The Punks opened with SGMAD and then into Bottoms Up. They also played Jamie's Cryin, FYLT, Mean Street, Good times gone, YRGM, Pretty Women & Panama. Some local guy also got up and did JP-Breakin the Law.
Pretty dissapointing that they didn't have time for Unchained or Hot for Teacher. Maybe next time.

Man, that was the best show these guys have put on in San Diego ever. You could tell they were happy to be playing at a new venue. I'm glad they got away from that hole called Canes. It was a decent place, nothing against it but the HOB has a rep for bringing in top quality acts and this is exactly why the punks played here. Thanks guys, I don't mind paying a bit more for a better bar, a more friendly staff, and an awesome sound system...the light show kicks ass too. Russ, you are the most underrated player in the band. Amazing what you can do with Rush and Van Halen in the same night..impressive...same for the drummer (Scott?). See ya there next time with two more friends.

Canes was fine and all. It was major step up from the Bitter End. However, the House of Blues is a GREAT venue in terms of sound quality, crowd quality and girl quality. I still feel it took a while to dial in the sound but with "You Really Got Me" the band/sound board was firing on all cylinders. I wish though you would invite the girls onstage for the last song like you have done in the past. Me and the guys felt that was the master stroke to a fine evening.

By far, the Atomic Punks were at their highest point ever at this gig. It was the best performance I've seen yet but...
Go back to Cane's!! $19 for a ticket, $5 for a can of beer not to mention parking $10-25 is a bit steep. AND to end the show at 12:30 was highly disappointing for everyone there. We'd get at least 45 more minutes of music and antics at Cane's for a lot less $.
Yes, the lighting was great (I guess that's what we all paid for) and the sound wasn't all that great, mainly the fault of the HOB hall.
I'll have to really limit my times to see the Punks if they continue to go to HOB. I can't afford it.

WOOOOOOOOOOOO This show rocked the HOUSE!!! Ok I'll start off with... I heard about this concert a couple of weeks before it actually took place, so I wanted to see if my friend would go with me. (his first and only concert was Hilary Duff, lol) So we showed up at the Marquee at around 6:40... that was interesting. We were about the only people there besides the bartenders..so we waited around until about 7:50 and went to go get a spot for the first band.. We were on the left-ish side of the stage, up against the fence, and the first band came on.. These guys were here when I saw the Peacemakers, so I was used to their music. Still standing in the same spot, sometimes staying in both spots so one of us could go to the bathroom, the second band came on, which we thought was the best out of the 3 opening acts. Blah blah blah, after the 3rd band left, we saw them setting up the drums for the punks.. Some people to the right of us had left, so we were very close to center stage.. The show opened with Romeo Delight (correct me if I'm wrong), and it just got better from there. About halfway into the show, my friend got really into the music (just as I had been for the whole show), and we were sweatin and jumpin, just enjoying the hell out of some awesome classic VH. After the show was over, I bought 2 of the red XL shirts from Scott.. pretty funny shop setup, though =p.. Hold up your money and we'll get you a shirt.. All in all we stood for a solid about 5 hours, but it was worth it once the Punks came on. Excellent show, and good work! Peace, Sneaky.

Everything seemed "perfect" to me :) Fun to hear the song "Jump".......first time I've heard you guys play it. When Ralph yelled out "I see you" and gave me the hello sign I think he was talking to me. I waved back with a smile and shaking my head since my arms are paralyzed, otherwise I'd wave back. I didn't know Joe is from Alaska, as Ralph indicated. Cool, we'll have to go climb Mt. Denali sometime. All the best,

had me cracking up and I wasn't even drinking!!!
Sound wasn't that great and I sat right behind the console. At times Ralph's vocals were buried too much in the mix and it was a bit loud....and not in a good way either. My ears were ringing on the long drive home last night. I had earplugs but at first it didn't seem bad so i never put them in.

An absolute MUST see for any DLR era VH fan. Ralph signs the DLR songs the way Dave should have (he remembers the words)! As a guitar player myself, Russ' recreation of Ed's sound and lightning fast solos is beyond description. He has Ed's tone dialed in perfectly to match each of the DLR albums. The guitar solo spot was jaw dropping and there wasn't 1 note he missed when recreating "Eruption", "Mean Streets into", "Cathedral", and "Little Guitars". Don't miss them if you have the chance, especially if you grew up on DLR Van Halen playing air guitar in the mirror... You will have such a good time watching them.

Saw The Punks at a wedding reception and they were AWESOME! The music was great and the lead singer sounds more like DLR than DLR sounds today....And pretty much identical to prime DLR. They did a tremendous job of getting the audience involved and were just great performers. I highly reccomend seeing them if you get the chance.
Oh, they also played songs by other groups, including Poision and Motley Crue. "Shout at the Devil" sounded much better than when Vince Neil did it at the Crue concert I went to last week.
Great singer, great band. Great performers!

I know, if it's too loud, you're too old BUT even the hard cores with me said their ears were ringing for two days after the show. You know I would do anything for you, but don't hurt me Baby. Bring down the volume just a tad and increase the pleasure. I had to practice safe rock and plug my ears a few times, and I prefer it raw. Drop it a notch and give it to me hard. I like it slappin off me, but I do't want to bleed. Don't stop, keep it comin', just change postion a touch.

This past show I brought friends with me who got hooked too and vowed to come to the next shows. We even asured the people in line behind us that since this is their first time too that they will be returning fans too. After the show they were cheering and bought shirts and said they will see them again in an instant. You guys rock!!!!!

Christ, Ralph you even duplicated Daves mistakes and side show antics. Russ simply amazing, I dont even think Eddie could do it better. Hope that you guys can make it to the Boston area someday. I'm from North Carolina and work in the sport of NASCAR, so I've been lucky enough to be out west when the Punks have played near NASCAR tracks. First time was in Phoenix at the track a couple of years ago, then at Sunset Station last weekend.
Great show, Ralph has the David Lee "screams" down cold. Russ is a very talented guitarist, but the wig needs a little work. The drummer and bass player are great, but I'd love to see the drummer use an Alex-style kit (either one with the black and white stripes, or the one with the "tubes" in the bass drum like he used on the "Diver Down" tour), and the bassist to use either the Jack Daniel's bass or the Explorer Michael used that looked like it had a big blood stain right in the middle of it (old Van Halen fans may know what I'm talking about).
I'd also love to hear them do "Romeo Delight" or "Hear About It Later."
I really enjoyed the show both times, though. Ralph is hilarious!
Oh, one other thing. Ralph, jump off the drum riser and do a mid-air split ala Roth one time.

Just got back from a long and grueling month long sales trip from Vegas. While I was staying at the Sunset Station, I saw a sign that was advertising the band. Gotta be honest here and say that I had never heard of the band before I saw the sign or actually saw them perform.
Let me just say that I was totally blown away from the experience that I had in watching the band. You guys were seriously fricking awesome and even though it wasn't open mic night at the improv.....Ralph....you seriously have a second job in stand up my man. The entire band is truly a great tribute to the original Van Halen and I am glad that you guys just seem to have fun on stage and try not to be so serious about what you are doing. You guys have a fan in me and I will definitely check you guys out again here in LA! Happy Trails Fellas, Happy Trails!

They started off with Romeo Delight and just never let up. I don't understand how I can see these guys at least once a month, yet I'm constantly being blown away. The coolest part about it is that the guys in the band are really really cool, down to earth people. Russ especially. He frickin' gave my friend the shirt off his back!!!! And it was an old school Van Halen 1 shirt too. So thanks again guys for what you do. It means the world to John and I. Also thanks to the Punks for letting me get on stage and SING UNCHAINED!!!!! Not a review of this show necessarily... just a shout out to the band, and those that have never seen them. I live in a little town in Arizona, right between Phoenix and Las Vegas. The Punks played here at a small bar a couple years ago, and I was fortunate enough to be able to get up on stage to sing some "Sweet Home Alabama". Totally insane... I've been playing for years, and even with a minimal crowd, the energy was great. One of the biggest thrills for me to be on stage with the guys. Anyway... going to try to get out for the show/s in Vegas this weekend.
I never really said thanks to the band.... I know it's been awhile, but sincerely... Thanks. What a kick in the ass.
Every time you come to Vegas, it seems I'm out of town, but this time around, all looks good.

Hey Guys, thought I would report to my fellow Van Halen brothers out there, the David Lee Roth show I saw on New Years Eve at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. I flew in from Santa Monica to visit relatives and paid the $109.00 for the tickets. Roth performed 2 shows the same night. I must say to my Van Halen comrades in arms, it was a very disapointing show. We all know that we are not going to see this legendary original band perform again, but Roth is nowhere he was, even 3 years ago when I last saw him. His stage presence was not at all DLR. Sure he is 50 years old now, but his band did not sound that tight, his vocals did not seem to be singing the same song that the band was playing. It truly was a sad affair to see this rock legend almost get booed off stage for the $109.00 bucks people paid. I think that Dave himself could see that the crowd was not really into his show and he reverted to his famous jerk off the bottle of Jack Daniels all over the people in the front rows. Well, he did this 4 times in the first 50 minutes of the 115 minute show. I felt sorry for Dave actually. Many people were bitching about a refund. My fellow Van Halen fans , it appears that it is coming to an end soon. You know that when DLR has to do 2 shows in the same night, that things must be bad all over, but now we know why he is studying to be a paramedic in NYC. I always liked DLR, but maybe he should retire after this not so good show, while he can still keep his greatest frontman ever status. I love the atomic punks and see alot of their shows. Trust me, I would have paid $40 bucks to see the punks on this night, rather than pay $15 bucks to see Daves New Years Bash. It was that bad. I am only telling it like it was, from only about 15 feet away from stage.

Hey guys, it was a pleasure to drop by and see some of your show. After 16 years of touring in Ratt, I must say that you guys are truly a carbon copy of the Halen band. I do not think that we (Ratt) played Van Halen as well as you do, even going back to our very early days of playing bar gigs all over Southern Cal. A month ago my ex-boyfriend went to see AP at a nightclub in Las Vegas and afterward called to tell me how kick ass they were. Being a raging VH fan, I had to check out the website and find out the closest venue to San Jose. Sure enough, one was in Sacramento. Needless to say, I made it my mission to attend this concert. It was literally "Sacramento or bust."
Despite repeated sound checks and AP not coming on stage until and hour and a half later than scheduled, it was well worth the drive and worth the wait. From the band's stage presence, their impressive ability to sound like VH themselves, and Ralph's amazing voice (so close to DLR ad well as hitting the DLR screech dead on) and Ralph's hysterical between song comedy, it truly made for an awesome night.

Needless to say the next time the AP's were in Phoenix I went to the show. The only way to describe it was like seeing VH at there prime in a 1000 seat bar atmosphere. The performance and music was a 10! Totally shocking. Nearly every woman in the audience was invited up on stage for the last three songs. By the last song 80% of the women on stage had there tops off. It was, seeing 1984 VH in a bar in 2002....When the hell are you coming back to Phoenix guys? So less than a week before I saw Van Hagar and the Scorpions...then made it down south to LA to catch this tribute band I'd heard of called The Atomic Punks. Having had one of the best times of my life seeing Van Halen on their Diver Down tour, I was hoping I'd be able to relive them old days. And, to my disbelief...these guys brought it back damn near perfect. From the lead singer's look and amazing Roth vocals (even the classic screams and cockiness of DLR), to the sound of Eddie and the rest of the band...this was a great flashback to those great high school days. And, from professionalism to just a great night...these guys lived up to the level of the 2 previous hard rock shows I had seen less than a week before. To bad I live in Hawaii...or I'd go see these guys more often. All I can say is, for those of us who love to re-live those carefree days of VH, saving up for a tank of gas for the 69 camaro, and hoping you might tag the cheerleader on a Fri. night...I say "THANKS ATOMIC PUNKS"...

It was a pretty good "Tribute" night. Precious Time (Pat Benatar), Blackout (Scorpions), Bonfire (AC/DC) all did their thing. Pretty good over all, but as usual I was there for one thing. THE ATOMIC PUNKS!
It was again a great show. I think what made it most memorable were the "RARE" songs they desided to bring out including "Take your Whiskey Home". I don't think even VH ever played that live. Just so damn cool. That's keeping it Classic!
They brought a guy up during "Ice Cream Man" who sang "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour. Just crazy.
Joe's Bass seemed to have some problems (or it seemed like it), but hardly noticable. Did Russ get a new wig? Ralph seemed a bit more punchy than usual, The crowd was a bit more drunk than usual too...which always makes for possible problems. However Ralph and the boys never dissapoint during a show or song. Overall, another great night of VH!
Thanks again guys for keeping us fans rockin'

This was my first time seeing The Atomic Punks and all I can say is WOW!!!! I had heard many great things about the band, but I have to say I was completely blown away! When you guys opened with "Hot for Teacher" I was totally shocked. I recently saw Van Halen for the first time a few months back at Staples center, and I have to say that the Punks played Van Halen better than Van Halen. I have always been a Van HALEN fan...not Van HAGAR, so it was a great surprise to see and hear Russ duplicate one of the greatest front men ever. Great show guys and I will definitely be seeing you again soon!

They had the current VH tour shirt on and I asked them how they liked VH. They said, " VH sucks, Atomic Punks are the real deal". It was great to hear the Punks jam to "Brick House", Motley Crue's "Shout at the Devil", Dokken "Into the Fire" and Def Leppard "Photograph".

I forgot how SMALL 14 Below really is. When the Punks hit the stage it was pretty clear the sound guy wasn't ready for them. They sounded like they were playing out of a tin can. Joe's monitors weren't right, Ralph was having all kinds of volume problems. Did that stop them from rockin' HELL NO! They kept it going dispite the frequent cherps of feedback, and poor sound quality.
I was bummed cause I had brought a bunch of friends for the first time, and this just wasn't the venue to truly appreaciate the Punks. So we are going to Universal Citywalk this Saturday to lend our support.

As always a great show by the Punks in Sac. They broke out plenty of old tunes like Little Guitars, DOA, On Fire, Unchained, Mean Street, H4T, Panama, ATBL, Everybody WS.
The guys from Hot 4 Teacher played a few old tunes with the band which was cool. The drummer was wild.
A local band singer got up and they did some Crue - Live Wire, Red Hot, Shout at the Devil & they teased Dr FG. They also played some Judas Preist. It was cool, but I would rather hear more VH/DLR and save the other stuff for the Metal Skool show.
They didn't do Ice Cream man which had been a staple at most Punk shows. Also NO Yankee Rose.
Overall Great show.

Holy shit....where do i begin? Van Halen (with DLR) is my favorite band of all time. I have listened to the records (and CD's) since birth. I try to get in at least one album a day. So trust me when I say I know the songs front to back. And The Atomic Punks are flawless at recreating those songs. Every guitar solo, every DLR scream, every little nuance. The show was incredible. Absolutely stellar. I'm only 24 years old so I didn't get a chance to see Van Halen in their prime, only old footage like US Festival and Oakland '81. These guys are the real deal. This was one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. Maybe it's because I'm so obsessed with VH that I'm a little biased, but God damn if they don't play so good that the roof fell in (and they didn't even stop the show!). Keep it up guys please! Ok now i don't remember the order that they played the songs but here's what they played:
Van Halen
You Really Got Me
Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love
I'm the One
Jamie's Cryin'
Little Dreamer
Ice Cream Man (they teased me with the beginning of Fools before ripping into this song. during this song they pull up people from the audience to sing "guarantee--eee---eee" at the end)
On Fire (they opened with this)
Van Halen II
Dance the Night Away
Somebody Get Me a Doctor (i'm not positive but i'm 99% sure they played this)
Woman And Children First
Everybody Wants Some
Fair Warning
Hear About It Later
Unchained
So This is Love? (i got to go up on stage and sing part of this song! it was like i was fronting Van Halen for about 10 seconds. huge thrill)
Diver Down
Where Have All the Good Times Gone!
(Oh) Pretty Woman
1984
Panama
Hot For Teacher
I hope I'm not forgetting anything. Oh yeah they played "Yankee Rose" from Eat 'Em And Smile. They brought this guy up on stage who called himself the big red machine. He was just hammered. He was making up some pretty funny shit that was supposed to be lyrics. It was hilarious. And of course Russ played an unreal guitar solo. He's a shredder, no if and's or but's. Genius. Sorry if this review is too long. These guys made my weekend. Don't miss 'em.
P.S. I got a chance to talk to Russ and Ralph before and after the show. They were really nice guys. No rock star bullshit, just down to earth peeps. You guys fucking rock!!!!

well, ANOTHER fantastic weekend of VAN HALEN! friday night's show was fantastic, a lot of the older and more rare stuff, opening with "loss of control"! had a GREAT drummer (teehee, if you were there, you know why i say that- hint: it was me) join them for "panama", as usual, the crowd was LOVING it... on to saturday night when the crowd was bigger AND better, the vibe was REALLY flowing that night. a few more guest appearances, a friend joined them on guitar for "ain't talking 'bout love", and on the usual "ice cream man" bit, ralph found a great singer and pulled him up on stage, the band was playing "sweet home alabama" and the guy did such a great job they played the whole song! THEN, the guy let's his hair down and he looks like ozzy, so naturally: "crazy train"! it was AWESOME, EVERYBODY, including the band was having a BLAST!! the VAN HALEN was blistering through the rest of the night... finishing up with "unchained" (my personal favorite), it was one of the better shows ever, and i have seen over 20! can't wait 'til september... Wow! I've seen the Punks everytime they've come to Honolulu and each time they put on an awesome show. One good thing about this year was the promotion that led up to the show which resulted in a pretty good crowd. Last year when they played in Haleiwa, there was very little promotion and as a result the turn out was small. But no matter how big or small the crowd, the band always plays with an intensity that needs to be seen and heard! (What?, What?, What?...sorry can't hear yet, ears are still ringing!) Just came back from the show and like the guy before me said, my ears are still ringing too!
Some friends of mine said that I shouldn't go to the show because they were a "cover" band and that it was hair metal and all, but I was like fuck that. How many times can you see 80's metal in Hawaii?
When I got there, I was truely blown away. The opening act Buddhist Priest opened with my favorite metal song of all time, The Hellion and Electric Eye. (The Hellion is the intro to Electric Eye.)
Then when Priest were done, the Punks came up and I was suprised because Ralph Saenz really looked like DLR.
The guitarist also had the Van Halen I album EVH tone dead on. Which was suprising because he was using a EVH 5150 head through a marshall cab even though eddie used a plexi on the VH 1 album. He also did a very cool version of eruption.
In fact, I doubt that even Van Halen themselves could put on a better show even when they still had Roth. Especially now that they have Hagar back, (who cares about Hagar, we want Dave! Honestly, who actually listens to Van Hagar? 5 people?) Sure Hagar can also play guitar well, but that's Eddie's job, and Hagar just doesn't have Dave's moves. The fact that Eddie is trying to look cool and recent with his new horrible hobo hairstyle doesn't help either.
When you watch the Atomic Punks, you realize exactly why Roth was so important to the band. He compliments Eddie perfectly. He makes people smile through his moves and singing style, while Eddie amazes with his guitar playing. Ralph and Russ have the exact same thing going on between them.
It was simply the best damn show, Tribute or no Tribute, that I have EVER seen.
Thanks to the Atomic Punks, you guys have to come back next year or so. It was just too good.
Don't come back too soon though, So I can torture my friends through telling them how they missed out on the best damn show that this island will ever see for the next year or so.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and had flown from New Brunswick, Canada to California. Having met Brian Young of DLR's band last year, Brian told me that if I was ever in California to go check out the Atomic Punks. He said they were the best! Man, was he right!
The venue was nice and small, not a bad spot in the house. Everyone there was extremely friendly.
I liked how Ralph said they didn't think they were Van Halen, they were simply playing tribute to the best rock band in the world.
The guys rocked and we had a great time. If you haven't seen the Atomic Punks, go see them, you won't be disappointed!!!

Wow, what more can I friggin say. Total energy, total rock and friggin roll. The purpose of the punks on Saturday night was to blow the crowd away with some classic van halen, and they did just that. By far , the best show I have seen yet. Russ, you and Eddie should get together cause if he is ever not feeling up to playing this summer, he has a replacement. Your solo was phenomenal, thanks again punks for makin your way to chilly Minnesota, you warmed the place up. I brought three Atomic Punks virgins, they are comin back, with three more virgins. All the other shows I have seen have been at HOB, Anaheim and I do not know if it is the "Venue" or what but for me personally the energy and enthusiam was rocking. The band seemed more relaxed and into the crowd. Also probably the best for me because I got Ralphs sweat all over me. I am moving to Arizona soon so come to Scottsdale more I see you have one coming up. I will be there.

The PUNKS..WOW! Ralph is better at doing DLR than DLR himself. I mean Ralph sounds like Dave from the first albums, but live. And, Russ, well Russ is flawless as Eddie..The rest of the Band is great..They seem like good guys too.. The show was lots of fun! Really good interaction from the band to the crowd..
Thanks guys!

I was in vegas to see a friend tie the knot.
On Friday Night I watched the first set, and the punks rocked the house, never seen them do Women in Love. "Just ask the guy who was dancing back and forth in front of the stage the entire show. (Mr Krokus was his name)."
On Saturday Night the second set was the best I've ever seen.........Hang-em High was cool,
but Eddie (Russ) solo was to a "T". I had a friend with me and he couldnt believe is eyes.

Another great show! I liked the opening with Russ alone at center stage and tearing into Unchained as the curtains opened. I don't know how the band could be any tighter but it seems like it gets better every time. I'm likin' the choreography. (That doesn't make me gay does it?) I missed Moving Pictures though. He couldn't have been a more gracious and cool dude putting up with my dumb questions. The Punks recreate everything that was great about DLR vintage VH and more!!! FUCKING AWESOME!!! I came to Paladino's to see my friends in Prophecy, the QR trib band. They convinced me to stick around to see The Atomic Punks, and man am I glad I did! I swear I was back at the Cow Palace watching Dave and company go thru the Diver Down show. The drummer has it down, the bass player can lay down a badass beat, the guitar player is simply amazing, and Diamond Dave himself could not have looked any better. Man do you know how to move it! Hey Ralph, thanks for letting me scream in yer mic too! My singing debut (you don't wanna hear any more tho trust me!). It was funny to throw in a Bon Jovi tune (was excellent btw), some old school Metallica - just goes to show that you guys have FUN up there. Plus the babes in the place were hot!!! And the waitresses were all in lingere. I gotta come here on Friday nights more often! If you have never seen these guys before then head to Kozmo's in HB next Friday. They play with Metal 101 and Empyre. It's gonna be a fucking rocking time. Thanks for rocking my balls off guys. KEEP DOING IT!!!

I saw the Atomic Punks play at Lake Tahoe last weekend and they kicked serious ass! They played two 45 min. sets, and after the first, I was blown away. I stayed for the second set hoping it would be a different song list. It would not have mattered, I would have stayed anyway. The second set was even better! They even threw in Sweet Child O'Mine, Crazy Train, and Good Times Bad Times! They played songs that I hadn't heard in a long time. Songs that the mighty VH didn't play in the old day's. I saw Van Halen on the 1984 tour. It was Alex's birthday and everyone was wasted. It was a great event, don't get me wrong, but the Atomic Punks out Van Halened, Van Halen. I'll never forget that show in 1984, but just the same, I'll never forget the Atomic Punks rendition of this Classic Rockin Band. Look forward to catching the Sacramento show in November. I was a little disappointed in the overall enthusiasm of the crowd. Certain people were rockin but overall to much sitting. I just wanted to take a moment and give my take on the Atomic Punks. I have been an avid Van Halen fan for over 20 years, but never had the opportunity to see the band live. When Roth got back together to do the greatest hits album, I thought there might be slim chance of the band getting back together for a last tour or something; but to no avail. Well, as everyone knows, Roth fucked it up again and what happens, we get Mr. "More Than Words" attemting to fill the void. Sammy was ok, but what the hell was Eddie thinking in bringing in this clown? In any event, I thought all was lost, and then I hear about this band called the Atomic Punks doing VH orig songs. After numerous failed attempts getting out to see a show, I finally got the oppotunity to check these guys out at Club Point 705. I want to tell ya, they were flat out GREAT! If anyone is into VH music the way I am, they definitely need to check the Punks out! I really was thinking that it is was just going to be a mediocre show, but wound up being blown away by an awesome band. No knock on the other guys by any means, but the only thing that could probably top things at this point would to have Eddie, Alex, and Michael at the same time step on stage for a few sets with Ralph. Then again, who needs those guys, it's hard to tell the difference anyway; the Punks are that damn good! In all seriousness guys, thanks for keeping the greatest music alive!
ROCK ON!!!!

Among the choice cuts we got to hear/sing along to, "Women in Love...," "Hang 'Em High," "Outta Love Again," and "Dancing in the Streets." Russ was absolutely superb, and Scott and Joe were also in top form and in a playful mode. I took a friend to his first ever Punks show, and he was blown away. As usual, the Punks put on a stellar show. All of them were in top form, Ralph sounded great, Russ seemed particularly inspired, Joe and Scott provided the great backbone VH music needs to be properly paid tribute to. Prior to the show, the DJ made me smile as he was spinning what sounded like to me as a tribute to Metal Shop (Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Whitesnake, Warrant, etc.) Despite the silly rule of "no drinks on the floor in front of the stage," which kept quite a few people on the sides, where both Ralph and Russ made frequent visits to, the crowd was really into the show, and was even shouting requests (like "D.O.A", or my personal request, "Unchained.") I heard them do for the first time "(Oh) Pretty Woman," and it was just fabulous. Like the Romans, it was "vini, vidi, vici" all over again, and I was there to bear witness to it. Can't wait until next show. Rock on!

I've been to every Atomics Punk show I could make in Arizona for the last 3 years, but have been dying to make it to one or their shows at The Whiskey, so I finally made the trip to LA! My 11 year old daughter has caught my passion for Van Halen music, but I couldn't get her into the 8/1/03 show at the Cajun House in Scottsdale, as it was 21 and over, so I kept her up WAY past her bedtime to go the last night's show. IT WAS WORTH IT! As always, it was a great time. We saw DLR (and Brian Young, who liked my AP t-shirt and kept throwing me picks) in Tucson 7/29/03, but Ralph does the VH tunes WAY BETTER than Dave does now! Russ was spectacular, and chatted with us before the show about Jackson Reilly's birth 8/1. Joe gave my daughter his pick after the show. The high point for her, though, was when Ralph patted her on the back and scolded me during the show for keeping her up, then acknowledged us for stoking her interest in Heavy Metal. She also enjoyed meeting the boys after the show and getting a signed picture! While it was hard on her staying up, it was a great night she'll never forget!
As always, the music was awesome. All 4 musicians clearly share the fans' love of VH music, and convey this in their execution. We even got a little Smash Mouth and SH VH with Ralph singing "Why Can't This Be Love" as DLR would. (Ironically, midway through the verse, he trailed off and announced "I forgot the lyrics," which happened exactly that way with DLR 7/29 with one of his own VH songs!)
I hope the guys will come to Tucson again soon, if we can find them a venue that won't screw them like BACKSTAGE apparently did!

As Nick said below "WOW". Once again The Punks take control of the entire venue. For those who never seen the mighty VH, if you see the Punks, then you have seen VH.. hands down. It was a special treat to see Brian with AP. The first time I ever heard Brian was when he was playing for DLR on the "Dave & Sammy" tour. I had to find out who he was... and that is when I discovered AP. I have to say that Russ is a bad ass player, however, Last night, I got my wish of seeing Brian with AP. Not only do the punks play VH to a perfection, they have so much fun doing it. They do an excelent job of involving the entire menue to "come outside and play". Somebody give THEM a shot!! True Van Halen. Come on People, who the hell in this world other than DLR can soud like DLR other than Ralph?
HOw about that 13 year old guitar player last night Nick? Wow!
Thanks Punks!!!

I would go see these guys again in a heart beat. Guitar work & vocals to a T. Tribute very well done. Same sound & same antics. Overall review is a 10 without a doubt. This was the third time that I had seen the Atomic Punks play out here in the Las Vegas area in the last three years, and I must say that they just keep getting better and better with each show. I had just seen The Main Man -Diamond Dave at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel on 6/14/03 exactly one week before the recent Atomic Punks show, and Man, BOTH SHOWS KICKED SOME SERIOUS ASS!! I guess what really blows me away about the Atomic Punks is how Ralph Saenz reminds me of a younger Dave when he is performing on stage, he has the (amazing) voice, mannerisms, attitude of Dave all rolled up in one. It also doesn't hurt that he looks a little like Dave too! So far as the guitar playing of former guitarist Brian Young what an awesome player he is! Russ Parrish who replaced him(Brian after Brian joined Dave) is also a phenonmenol guitarist in his own right. I am a little bit familiar with Russ's guitar prowess since I had heard him play in Rob Halford's band as the guitarist for the group Fight. Joe Lester is an amazing bass player who manages to hold the bottom end together, as Scott Patterson on drums keeps the beat and shows that he is more than capable of holding his own when he takes an awesome drum solo. I just wish that Joe Lester would have been given a chance to take a bass solo to show what he is made of! Maybe he'll get his chance in the near future! In conclusion what an awesome show put on by an equally awesome band!! I know that when the Atomic Punks come to Vegas again I will definitely be there too!! Til then ROCK ON!!

Incredible show. Many of the Van Halen characteristics are present here.
Ralph sings (and more importantly screams) just like Diamond Dave. His onstage action is strikingly similar.
Russ on leads leaves no note uncovered. Eruption was the best I've heard since EVH himself.
Brett thumped away on the bass like the mighty Mikey. Again, missing no note.
Scott on drums made the intro for Hot for Teacher" look easy.
They really respected the audience as well. Signing autographs and talking with the fans directly from the stage after the show. The guys were really down to earth and I can't wait to see them again.

It was my first punks show and I was really impressed..they were right, just close your eyes, drink a beer and you've got VH live once again. What a great time, great interactions with the audience, and WOW I can't believe how dead on the voice was. Guitar was incredibly close too. Drop Dead Legs rocked along with the standards. What a fun time.

I first saw you guys in LA @ 14 below, moved to washington and just happened to catch the show the weekend I moved up. You guys are the best tribute band out. I cannot believe how you all have nailed the energy and excitement of Van Halen. F***ing Awesome!! It was great meeting everyone (we have mutual friends). Just wondering when you'll be back up to the Seattle area?

My husband and I are regulars at your shows in AZ. Unfortunately, this last show was very disappointing. We were not impressed when the strippers continued to crowd the stage! We come to your shows to watch you guys play. We understand that girls are a part of some of the songs, but for them to take over the stage was not what we came for.

I just wanted to thank the Punks (Ralph, Russ, Scott and Joe) for a awesome time in AZ. I was there for my best friends sons 3rd birthday. And it just so happens that the Punks were there the same night I flew in. At the end of the show I had a poster signed by the band for Jake, (3 year old VH Fan) and they were more than happy to do so. They all personalized to Jake. What a great night!!! Moving Pictures, I missed the show at Canes. You all ROCK!!!
See you guys at Canes next time...

I've never seen so many talented musicians and singing as this band has. Ralph's singing and stage presence is so much fun to watch; he has not only been blessed with enormous singing talent but he also has one of the "funnest stage personalities" I've ever seen. Joe, Russ, and Scott all are great musicians and make the show wonderful with their perfect instrumentation. Ralph even said "hi" to me 3x during the show and I thought that was pretty cool! I'll definately be at the next show!

I attended my first Atomic Punks show last night. Outstanding! You had me smiling from ear to ear. My voice is horse from all the singing and cheering. I was only able to see Van Halen while Sammy was at the helm, but longed for the day I could see Dave. Thank you for bringing that to me and all the other David Lee fans out there. You can now definitely count me as another loyal Atomic Punks follower.

Punks! Thanks for a great show last night. It was my first time. You nailed the look and the sound -- but I expected that. What really impressed is that you captured the elements of classic Van Halen that many people overlook: the humour, the generousity, the near vaudeville-ian level of performance, the "You worked hard all week, now let us do the work"-ness of it all. Your show made me appreciate the songs all over again and reminded me why I loved them in the first place -- now that's a great performance. (And I can't fucking believe you played "Loss of Control.") I'm really glad you are doing what you do.

You guys were the best thing this town has seen in a long time. My only regret was that the word did not get out as to who you actually were and the fact that downtown was dead the night before Easter. Anyway, please come back and we will be in your debt. As formy brothers, friends and myself, you rocked our ass.I have never heard Van Halen played so well. Drums, guitar, vocals were dead on, drop-dead on. Next time we will guarentee a great turnout!!!! Xman.

Hey Guys,
Let me just say (as if you didn't know already) - you kick ASS! :-) Each show keeps getting better and better...
Anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of seeing the Punks in Las Vegas is seriously missing out on a fantastic show and venue. This month marked our 4th time (both shows each time) going to Vegas from LA just to see the show. No offense to Scuffy O'Sheas (where I saw my first couple of shows a few years ago), or 14 Below... - but Club Madrid really is the best place to see them!! (Becuase you CAN actually SEE them!) It's even better than HOB - where we saw your first show there! :-)
I love how tight you all are as a band - when Russ stepped in for Brian the first time, I couldn't help but sit with a dumbfounded look on my face. WoW! And Scott, you did wonders with the house drums on the 11th. ;-) Joe is a great addition, and a killer bassist! And Ralph... Quite the event going on in your pants at the last Madrid show. ;-) You, as always, stole the show.
Anyway, long story short, we love seeing the Punks!!! We also give HIGH marks to the new songs that have been added to the set list!! It's great to hear some of the non-Top 40 ones... One Request - Play Mean Streets every night!!!! :)
Take care and Rock On! Can't wait until the next concert!

These guys do better Van Halen than Van Halen ever could, and I've seen the real Van Halen within the past few years.
The great thing is their stage prescence, they know who they are and know their audiance and make it a fun and humourous show as well as totally rockin'.
The best part of the show occured when they allowed one of my fellow fighter pilot pals on stage to play guitar (Eddie wig and all) for "Pretty Woman." These guys are a class act, and I'll make sure I catch them next time they're in town.

Another awesome show. As alway, Ralph did a totally convincing DLR, complete with groping "Crown Royal" gal! Russ was superb with both bands (Moving Pictures and Atomic Punks). His "Eruption" solo was more like the extended solo from the 2-disc live VH Right Here, Right Now versus the VH1 version Brian used to play. It was EXCELLENT! How about adding some "Cathedral" volume swell/delay arpeggios? Scott and Joe were right on, as well.
One of the best moments was when the stage was filled with dancing women as the boys played "Hot for Teacher" and Ralph kept looking back at them in disbelief. Don't women throw themselves at you like that everywhere you play?
Hope you'll make it back to Tucson soon, but if not, I'll be driving back to Phoenix again for your next visit (and Russ, I'll bring my flashlight again...)

Thanks for playing numerous album cuts! Your passion and prowess demonstrate what a great band Van Halen was. You filll the void, Ileft the show satisfied , not longing for the genuine article, only wishing that I had appreciated them more the first time around.
